Charles Russell Spradley

Charles Russell Spradley, 80, passed away on Monday March 27 at his home in Hinesville, Georgia. Mr. Spradley was born July 17, 1942 to John Russell and Lonnie Louise Spradley in Ashburn, Georgia. He moved to Hinesville around the age of 15 years old to with work his Daddy in the field of carpentry. While working in Hinesville, Charles met and fell in love with his wife Iris Floyd. They were married 56 years and raised four children together.

Mr. Spradley worked in the carpentry field and as a general contractor for most of his life. He also became a volunteer firefighter around 1976 and was one of the first permanent firemen when the Hinesville Fire Department was officially formed. Charles later served as the Assistant Fire Chief for the Hinesville department for many years and retired in February 2003.

In his retirement years, Mr. Spradley loved being outdoors, cutting grass, and working on small engine repairs. It was said he could fix almost anything and was always coming to everyone’s rescue when needed because he was a Jack of All Trades.

Mr. Spradley was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Spradley; his parents, John and Lonnie Louise Spradley; and an infant brother, Lonzie Spradley. He leaves behind to cherish his memory four children, Paul (Melanie) Spradley of Ludowici, GA, Patricia Spradley, Leann O’Quinn (Matt), and John Spradley all of Hinesville, GA, and Dalton Dowd of Ludowici, GA. He will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Shawn Lowe, Nicholas Spradley, Nathan Spradley, and Charlie Spradley; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Spradley is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Scholler of Apex, NC, Diane McDonald of Adel, GA, Debra Brown of Sylvester, GA, Anitha Shaner of Rebecca, GA, and Karen Story of Sycamore, GA; and two brothers, Larry and Randy Spradley both of Ashburn, GA.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service in Flemington Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
