William Benjamin Hawkins, III

October 30, 1973 — January 25, 2020

On Saturday, January 25, 2020, William Benjamin Hawkins lll returned to his heavenly home after a valiant battle with a long-term illness. 

Ben was born on October 30,1973 in Athens, GA to the late William Benjamin Hawkins Jr. and Carolyn Wren Hawkins. They relocated to Wilmington Island a few years later where Ben grew up making many lifelong friends and developing into the man we all know. This is also where he met his devoted wife, Joann. 

Ben was married to Joann Hawkins for 17 years. They were not only husband and wife, but best friends.  Any one that knew them could see how much they loved each other. Ben was a devoted and loving father to four children. He attended Savannah Christian Preparatory School and Calvary Day School and has maintained many lifelong friendships from those families.  He was a well-respected Certified Master Electrical Contractor and earned is IFMA certification.  He was a dedicated employee at ABM where he was a Facility Manager at Gulfstream. He will be missed by all that had the fortune of knowing him. Ben was known for his sense of humor and his infectious personality. He always had a smile on his face and a laugh that could not be mistaken for any other person. Ben had the innate ability to make you smile even on your worst day.  Ben was committed 100% to anything he set his mind too. Ben was a self-proclaimed Grill Master and loved to cook for his friends and family whenever given the chance. He loved being on the water with his family, riding motorcycles, and listening to Jimmy Buffett. He was the happiest outdoors, whether on the beach or in the mountains, listening to his favorite musicians and either grilling or living his best life on the water.  

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Joann Hawkins; his children: Hunter Blake Hawkins, Joshua Samuel Hawkins, Hannah Brooke Hawkins, William Brendan Hawkins; his mother, Carolyn Wren Hawkins; Ginger Hawkins Donahue and her husband Tony Pruett, their four sons, Blaine Ashton, Cole Christian, Zachary Darrel, and Matthew Dylan; John Crawford Hawkins and his wife Caitlin Hawkins, their daughter Chandler Grace; and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. 

The visitation will be held Monday, January 27, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel 10512 Ford Ave, Richmond Hill GA 31324. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 1:00PM at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Celebration of Life on behalf of Ben following the service.
