Sherry Lee Carner, 65, of Hinesville, GA, passed away on January 17, 2023at Memorial Hospital, in Savannah.

A celebration of her life will be on Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 2:00-4:00pm at Carter Funeral Home in Hinesville, GA.

Sherry was born on September 4, 1957 in Altoona, PA to Edward Raymond and Joanne Martha Laughlin. She graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1975. She worked as a Contracting Specialist for the Department of the Army for more than 40 years. During her outstanding career she saw service at the Pentagon, Navy Yard, Ft. McNair, Ft. Myer, and Ft. BelvoirShe received numerous awards and recognitions in the field of contracting.

Sherry loved the beach, shopping for antiques, interior decorating, and spending precious time with her family, to include her favoring cat, Tigris.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Edward R. Laughlin and Joanne M. (Becker) Laughlin, grandparents Raymond and Laura (Croft) Laughlin, and Edna Louise Burns.  

Sherry is survived by her son, James Carner of Hinesville, sisters Marsha Vahey of East Freedom, PA, Doris Wilgus of Virginia Beach, VA, and Diane (Don) Sanker of Hinesville, brother Duncan Scott of Monroeville, PA, nieces and nephews Sara (John) Spurlin, Lauren Sanker, Kerrick (Fe) Sanker, Caleb Sanker, Helen Carmona, Erin (Andy) Worthing, Tim Vahey, Sean (Alicia) Vahey, Jamie (Chris) Kidd, and Danielle (David) McIlwee, great nieces and nephews Kipten and Hutchings Spurlin, Sabrina and Manny Carmona, Nate, Lizzie, and David Vahey, Brandon and Joshua McIlwee, Arianna McGlynn, and Liberty Worthing, as well as many other family and friends that have been part of Sherrys journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society and St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.

The family of Sherry Carner wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital and Encompass Rehabilitation Center.
