Seavy Highsmith O’Neal Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23, 2025, at the age of 87, in Savannah, Georgia.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Parker O’Neal; his sons, Seavy Highsmith O’Neal III, Benjamin Parker O’Neal, and Tommy O’Neal; and his daughters-in-law, Amy Atao and Nadia Hewett. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Seavy Highsmith O’Neal IV, Dolan Neblina O’Neal, Richard Hewett O’Neal, Benjamin Parker O’Neal Jr., and Steven Paul O’Neal, Anah Shai O’Neal and Joseph Todd O’Neal.
Seavy was a kind, generous, true Southern gentleman, his Irish heritage adding just a hint of spirited warmth to his character. His wife often reflected on how, growing up, she was taught to look for a man who could change a tire on a hot summer day, stop to pet a dog on the head, and speak kindly to a small child—that such a man was truly special. Seavy was that man. A quiet yet strong leader, he believed in getting things done behind the scenes.
He deeply loved his wife, children, and dogs, especially Elsa Mae, their cherished rescue.
Born on August 26, 1937, in Lumberton, North Carolina, to Ann Allen O’Neal and Seavy H. O’Neal, he graduated from Edmunds High School in South Carolina in 1955, where he played varsity football. He attended Wofford College in South Carolina and later received an appointment from Senator Strom Thurmond to work at the Library of Congress.
Professionally, Seavy held various roles in sales and engineering, including positions with Ross Engineering and Metal Equipment Company. He was also the proud owner of Savannah Tank and Fabricators.
A man of strong faith, Seavy served as a faith leader and elder in many capacities throughout his life. He was instrumental on the building committee at St. Paul’s Lutheran and later in acquiring the land and building for Risen Savior Lutheran Church, where he worshiped and served.
Beyond his professional and faith commitments, Seavy was a Life Master bridge player, who traveled extensively throughout the United States and Mexico as a professional contract bridge partner.
