Rodney Chester Wynn

February 27, 1940 — July 11, 2022

Rodney Chester Wynn, 82, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.

Rodney was born on February 27, 1940 in a two-room shack, where they fed the chickens through the cracks in the floors in Laurens County near Rockledge, GA. He moved to Savannah, GA in 1941. He attended Henry Street School for 1-6 grades, Savannah High School for 7-9 grades, and Commercial High School for 10-12th grades. In 1959, shortly after finishing high school, Rodney married Patsy Gaynell Crosby. They were married for 48 years and she preceded him in death. They enjoyed a few years of retirement together and were able to travel around the entire country and Canada, along with taking cruises to the Caribbean.

In 1969 he moved his family to Fleming, GA. He worked for 40 1/2 years for Union Camp, as a Millwright and Maintenance Planner. He served in the Georgia National Guards, 118th Field Artillery, and 48th Armored Div. for nine years, attaining the rank, E-5. He was an expert-level marksman competing in competitions held in the National Guards.

He was a faithful and devoted member of Fleming Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Liberty Coastal Lions Club and held all offices, including president. Rodney loved family gatherings and served as the leader of the Wynn family reunion for several years but also enjoyed those with his immediate family. He also enjoyed planting vegetable gardens and sharing his produce with family, friends, and neighbors. He spent many days camping and fishing, which was a favorite pastime. He was very proud of his grandchildren and being with his family was his greatest joy.

On May 19, 2008 Rodney married Rose Marie Rowland. They enjoyed 14 years together doing many of the things they both loved to do. We became one big family when he gained three daughters, who he loved, Veronica, Sherry and Ann and she gained three sons.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Chester Wynn and Minnie Lee Page Wynn of Laurens, Co; and his youngest brother, Wendell.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Rowland Wynn; three sons, Raymond Anthony (Bet), James Stephen, and Douglas Clinton (Kimberly); three daughters, Veronica, Sherry, and Ann; four grandsons, Jason, Raymond Jr., Douglas Jr., and Joseph; two granddaughters, Sara and Emily; four great-grandchildren, Autumn, Landon, Hayden and Raylyn; one brother, Lloye Wynn; and two sisters, Charlotte Joyner and Josephfaye Rambo.
