Robert Kenneth Carpenter (Bobby)

October 20, 1931 — June 25, 2021

Robert Kenneth Carpenter (Bobby), 89, passed away at home on June 25, 2021 after an extended illness.  Bobby was born in Keller, GA on October 20, 1931.  He graduated from Richmond Hill High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy for four years.  Bobby served as Postmaster of the Richmond Hill Post Office and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990.  He was a member of Richmond Hill First Baptist Church, having joined in believer’s baptism at age 13.

Bobby was active in the community that he loved.  He served as President of Bryan Neck Cemetery Association for 50 years; Church Treasurer for 25 years; Coastal EMC Foundation Board; a member of the Bryan County Board of Education, and a member of the DP Club.

Bobby was a Christian and lived his life being the hands and feet of Jesus.  He found joy in the simplest pleasures – being outdoors, fishing, telling jokes, spending time with family and friends, and reminiscing about Richmond Hill days of old.  He enriched the lives of all who knew and loved him and leaves a legacy of kindness, gentleness, patience, faith, and love.

Bobby was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara C. Shepard (Billy); parents, Erwin and Addie Pearl Carpenter; stepfather, Theodore Carpenter; brother, Harry Carpenter (Jackie); and sister, Evelyn Carpenter Fox (Leonard).

Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Flora Jean Carpenter; daughter, Beverly Carpenter; sons, Ken and Russ Carpenter; grandchildren, Nicole DiFiore, Erica Birchall (Riley), Candace Shepard, Tyler Shepard (Missy), all of Richmond Hill, Julia Craig (Jacob) of Tennessee, and Kody Carpenter of New York; his adored baby sister, Bertie Rahn of Richmond Hill; 15 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Richmond Hill First Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Richmond Hill First Baptist Church, with private interment to occur at a later date.
