Retha Spivey Standard

November 23, 1935 — June 11, 2022

Retha Spivey Standard, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and departed to her Heavenly home on June 11, 2022.

Retha was born in Reidsville, Georgia on November 23, 1935.  She married her soul mate and love of her life, the late Theron Jackson Standard.

Retha was a graduate of Reidsville High School and a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Savannah, Georgia.  She practiced nursing for over 25 years at Liberty Regional Medical Center where she retired as the Manager of Outpatient Surgery in 2001.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hinesville for over 45 years and a member of Merry Makers Sunday School Class.  Retha also was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, shopping, traveling and watching the birds and nature, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was proud of her family and bragged about them to all who would listen.

Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Theron; father, Levy John Spivey; stepfather, Enoch Bradley; and mother, Lessie Jones Bradley.

She is survived by children, Cortez (Amy), Andrew (Christine), Victoria Davis (Buck), Jerome (Sharon), Durand (Carla), and Kelvin (Jennifer); brothers, Levy John “LJ” Spivey (Jackie), Jesse Bradley (Marsha), and Jerry Bradley (Linda); former daughter-in-law, Gail Poulsen (Dennis); thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Retha’s special caregivers Crystal Boyd and Brenda Goad for their compassion and exceptional care provided to her.

Also special thanks to GHC Hospice for their outstanding service during Retha’s transition.

Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Hinesville.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.  Burial will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Park, South Main Street, Hinesville.
