CSM Ray L. Martin (U.S. Army, Retired), 92, died peacefully at PruittHealth - Seaside under Hospice Care on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Ray was born in Olaton, Kentucky on August 30, 1931, and grew up in Kentucky and northwestern Indiana. He was a resident of Hinesville, Georgia for over 30 years. He was married to his lovely bride for 54 years prior to her passing in 2008.

Command Sergeant Major Ray L. Martin, US Army (Retired) began his Army Career in January 1950, and completed his Basic Training with the 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Riley, KS. His duty assignments during an illustrious 35-year Army Career span every leadership position from Squad leader to Corps and FORSCOM CSM. He was also an Outpost Harry survivor from his time served in the Korean War. He later did two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hinesville and regularly attended A New Beginnings Church in Ludowici, Georgia. He loved the Lord, his country and his family and it truly showed throughout his life. He was a long-term Mason and last attended lodge at the Hinesville Masonic Lodge.

CSM (Ret) Martin was married to the former Irene Alsip from Gary, IN. The Martins have two children, Deborah and Jeffery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ernestine Martin; along with his wife, Irene Martin; daughter, Deborah Martin; and sister, Doris Thompson.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Cindi Martin of Georgia; one sister, Faye Hoskins (Darrel) of Indiana; one brother, William Martin of Florida; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Hinesville Cemetery.
