Patricia A. Powell, 74, joined her Lord and her beloved Jesse on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in Hinesville, GA. She was born Patricia Ann Sykes on February 21, 1949, in Norfolk, VA to Oscar Lee Sykes and Cassa Ann Jenkins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Stevie Sykes, brother Donnie Nance, sister Delores Fleischer, husband Jesse J. Powell and grand-daughter Lauren Murray.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Alva Reeves, her niece Linda Tedesco; children, Patrick Bryant of Asheville, NC; Dean Bryant of Hinesville, GA; Danny Murray of Cumming, GA; their wives; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Patricia has worked at Guerry Lumber in Savannah, Dixie Crystal, Acosta Sales and Marketing Service, she also completed her associate in business management from Saint Leo University in May 2005. She lived in Heidelberg Germany for 4 years and was a government service employee. Moving back to Hinesville she worked for Geo Vista Credit Union until retirement.
Patricia was a beautiful sole. She loved getting involved and helping others from children to adults. As a Den Leader of Cub Scout Pack at Zion Lutheran Church, becoming a Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner for Effingham County. She also served as Cub Scout Day Camp administrator several years here in Georgia and Trans-Atlantic Council, in Germany.
She served on several District and Council Trainings. She attended Commissioner College for advanced training and received a Master’s in Commissioner Science. She was awarded the Silver Beaver—the highest award a council may give to a volunteer. The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIONS CLUB was fortunate to have her service as Club Director, Secretary, Vice President, and President District Governor 2012. As a member of Hinesville Lions Club since 2006 she has served as Club Director, MD 18 Georgia Council Chair 2018. She was also a very active Member of Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 789 in Hinesville, Georgia.
A great passion was her Quilting Guild. Her love for quilting and comradery with her friends brought such joy to her life. She once stitched in a quilt: “KNOWLEDGE SPEAKS, WISDOM LISTENS”. These are words we can all live by.
She was a cancer survivor and lived her life giving to others through service and generosity. Her unselfish love to do good for others was her way to give back. Her time with family was very important and she loved her time at the beach. She never met a stranger. She loved her Lord, and her church and church family were very important in her life.
Although she will be missed by so many, none as much as her family, she will always live on and be in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Carter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
