Palmer C. Hodges, 81, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020, at US Health Shands University Hospital in Gainesville, FL, after a short illness.
A native of Long County (Gum Branch), GA, he was a navy veterans and a resident of Steinhatchee, FL, for many years. He was a self-employed licensed contractor. Palmer Hodges Construction Company, Inc., built many houses, commercial buildings, hotels, and townhome complexes in the Hilton Head, Savannah, and Hinesville areas and he continued to build residential homes in Steinhatchee until his passing. To say Palmer was an avid fisherman would be an understatement. To those who didn’t know him as a builder, he was known as the captain of his “Deborah Lynn” fishing boat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton C. “A.C.” and Eleanor Wells Hodges.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Lynn Hodges Flynn of Savannah, GA; sons, Mark Hodges of Atlanta, GA, Gary Hodges of Savannah, and Dan Hodges of Bluffton, SC; five grandchildren, Cheryle, Justin, Chad, Chelsea, and Coleman; a brother, Wendell Hodges (Sharon) of Guyton, GA; niece and nephew, Cheryle and Michael; and many dear friends.
A Walk-thru Visitation will be 2pm-3pm, Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, 308 West Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville, GA. Graveside Services will follow at 3:30 in Gum Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Due to restrictions set in place during the current COVID19 health crisis, attendance at the funeral home is limited. Social Distancing practices will be observed at the funeral home and in the cemetery and face coverings are encouraged.
