Newton (Newt) Sylvester Davis

Newton Sylvester Davis (Newt), 59, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA.

Newt was born in Springfield, GA on December 24, 1961 and was the son of Layton Davis (deceased) and Barbara Ann (Davis) Menser. He was a United States Army Veteran and was retired from the Chatham County Sheriffs Office after twenty-five years of service. For many years, Newt enjoyed his hobbies of beekeeping and gardening and in the last several years he was his wife's devoted caretaker. One experience Newt liked to brag about most was his appearance as the Courtroom Bailiff in the movie The Gingerbread Man filmed in Savannah. He was a devoted husband, father, and brother.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lynn Davis; sons, Layton Davis and James Robert Davis; sister, Edith Edwards (Alvin); brother, Tony Ryan Davis (Alexandra), half-brother, Timothy Menser; half-sister, Marcie Parrott; granddaughter, Barbie Nicole Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

Because of COVID restrictions and health concerns for his spouse, a memorial service will be held at a later date for the family.
