Michael R. Dushner, Jr. (SFC, U.S. Army, Retired)

Michael Raymond Dushner, Jr. passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 21, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Michael and Elizabeth Dushner. He grew up in Springfield, MA where he graduated from Cathedral High School in 1959.

He was married to the love of his life, Song Dushner, for 41 years. He was in the U.S. Army for a total of 22 years across two enlistments, stationed in multiple states and overseas in Korea. In 1994, he retired from the U.S. Army at Ft. Stewart Army base in Hinesville, GA. After retiring from the Army, he owned and operated Sarge’s Lawn Care Services servicing Liberty County and the surrounding areas from 1994 – 2020.

Michael was a faithful parishioner of St. Stephen First Martyr Catholic Church. He loved playing tennis over the past 40 years and was a member of Southbridge Racquet Club in Savannah. He also loved baseball and was a die-hard Yankees fan. Michael was a music enthusiast. He sang, played guitar, and was in several bands throughout his youth. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Michael is survived by five children, Elisabeth Dushner, Michelle Wartelski, Christine Dushner, Michael Dushner, III., and Teresa Dushner; five grandchildren, Rowen, Logan, Khloie, Sophie, and Lucian; one son-in-law, Leandro Wartelski; and one daughter-in-law, Kellie Dushner.

Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. The Funeral Mass will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 399 Woodland Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Glennville, GA.
