Marvin F. (Pete) Clark, 85, of Hinesville, GA passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, Wednesday, November 29, 2023. He was born in Hinesville, Ga on October 31, 1938 to Marvin Flunoye Clark and Lollie Gill Clark. He attended Bradwell Institute and graduated from Young Harris College High School. Thereafter, he attended Young Harris College and the University of Georgia.
It was in 1962 that Pete married the love of his life, Ginger Shuman Clark of whom he was married to for 61 years. He served in and worked for the Georgia Army National Guard. Additionally, he worked with his family at the family owned newspaper, The Liberty County Herald. At the newspaper, he learned to be a typesetter. He became co-editor and editor along with his mother, and worked with his brother Nicky Clark and sister Angie Smiley. The family sold the business in 1977. Pete was the building inspector for the Liberty County Joint Planning Commission after working for The Liberty County Herald. He worked for more than 24 years as the county building inspector, retiring in 1998.
Pete was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hinesville where he served on various committees. He was a Sunday School teacher, an usher, and delegate to the UMC South Georgia Conference. Pete was a faithful member of the Jack Waller Sunday School Class of which he was the vice president.
Pete enjoyed hunting and especially enjoyed fishing on Hughes Old River and camping with his best buddies on Ft. Stewart. More than anything else, he loved his family and spending time with them.
Pete was preceded in death by Marvin Flunoye Clark, father; Lollie Gill Clark, mother; and Betty Jean Smith, sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Ginger Shuman Clark; daughter, Debra Clark Sukaratana (Tom); son, Dyess Clark; grandson, Clark Sukaratana; brother, Nicky Clark (Cindy); and sister, Angie Clark Smiley, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Hinesville First United Methodist Church, 203 North Main Street, Hinesville, GA. The service will follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
