Linda Whitfield Broome

November 7, 1945 — December 31, 2019

Linda Whitfield Broome, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by her family.

Linda was born on November 7, 1945 in Calhoun, GA. Her passion was cooking for her family, friends, and anyone in arm’s length. She always wanted to make sure everyone ate well, which was something she couldn’t always do during her youth. From the second you walked into her home she was offering you anything and everything from the kitchen.  She always made sure you were well fed and would say, “If you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault.” Nothing will ever top her homemade cooking, not even in those five-star restaurants. She will be remembered as the kindest, most loving, selfless woman who loved her family with all her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Stewart E. Broome, Jr.; her parents, Malcolm Whitfield and Lillie Mae Simmons; her brother, Archie Whitfield; and her grandson Matthew Troup.

She is survived by her children, Tara Troup Futch, John Troup, Jr. (Wendy), Patricia Broome Small (Kenneth), Stewart E. Broome, III (Jamesa), Maryann Broome, and Brandon Broome; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren; her brother Charles Whitfield (Susan); sister, Ellen Cronk; and several other family members.

Funeral services will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Richmond Hill Full Gospel Church with Bishop Thomas J. Sills, officiating. The family will receive friends in the church social hall immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Linda’s honor to Union Mission 120 Fahm Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia 2501 East President Street, Savannah, GA 31404.
