Leyda Jiménez

March 16, 1932 — October 2, 2022

On Sunday, October 2, 2022 Leyda Jiménez, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 90.  She was born into a family with 12 children in Puerto Rico to Richard and Fulgencia Navarro.  She was the widow of Cristóbal Jiménez from Manta, Ecuador.  She studied at Hunter College in New York City and earned a Bachelor’s in Education, a Master’s in Education, and a Certification in Educational Supervision and Administration.  She served as a teacher’s aide and then became a school teacher in the Bronx.  She taught in New York City Public Schools for 30 years.

During the summers between school years, Leyda took the family to Four Season Campground, New Jersey where she was actively involved in programs such as 4th of July, Halloween in July, and Christmas in August.  Leyda was always active in her community and when she retired to Hinesville, Georgia in 1996 she continued to be active in several areas such as the Silver Liners, as tax assistant for AARP, and loved singing in the church choir.

Leyda is survived by four children, Arlene Gonzalez of Florida, Wesley Jiménez and spouse Millie Jiménez of New York, Christopher Jiménez and spouse Juanita Jiménez of Georgia, and Richard Jiménez and spouse Stacey Jiménez of Germany.  She leaves behind eight grandchildren, Liana Caban and spouse Ben Caban of Florida, Alena Rodriguez and spouse Jon Rodriguez of New York, Dianna Jiménez of Georgia, Chris Jiménez and spouse Savannah Jiménez of Georgia, Lynda Jiménez of Georgia, Richard Jiménez of Germany, Michael Jiménez of Germany, and Rhiannon Jiménez of Massachusetts.  She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, 308 West Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville, GA 31313 with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel. A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022 at St. Stephen First Martyr Catholic Church, 399 Woodland Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313. 

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Vincent de Paul Ministry, care of St. Stephen’s Church at the address above.
