Lamar Smoak

August 1, 1936 — March 24, 2021

Lamar Smoak, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.

Lamar was born on August 1, 1936 in Candler County. He called Liberty County his home for 54 years. He was a saved Christian and a member of Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church. He was a country boy raised on a dirt road with a good high school education. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances, and they moved to Macon, GA. His first employment was driving a Dr. Pepper delivery truck. Later, he was hired by GA Power as an apprentice lineman. He climbed the ladder and 35 years later, he retired as the Hinesville Office District Manager. He and Frances traveled the world and he was also active in the community as a member of the Hinesville Rotary Int’l Club, Lions Club, Masons, and The Shriners. He loved playing golf, fishing, traveling, and was the best at a family activity of “sportsnagging.”

Lamar and Frances worked hard to achieve successful careers and to provide a better life for their family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances Smoak. Some may say they were blessed to have three daughters, but truly the daughters were the blessed ones.

Lamar is survived by his three daughters, Lynn Cannon (Joe) of Midway, Terri Floyd (Charlie) of Riceboro, and Lisa Duncan of Midway; two grandsons, Joey Cannon and Clint Floyd; brother, Steve Smoak of Blackshear, GA; sister, Nina Lanier (H.V) of Metter, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

A walk-through visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Michael Newman officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Dorchester Cemetery in Midway.

Social distancing practices will be in effect and masks are required to enter the funeral home.
