Katheryn "Kathy" Sue Merkley

Katheryn “Kathy” Sue Merkley, age 70, of Savannah, GA passed away on November 4, 2022 at Candler Hospital.

Kathy was born on December 13, 1951 on Boot Hill in Dodge City, Kansas. She graduated from High School in Anchorage, Alaska in 1968. She lived in several states throughout her life including Kansas, Alaska, Florida, Montana, Texas and Georgia. She wore rose colored glasses and was always up for an adventure. She loved to travel, gamble, crafts and entertain. Her life was full of fun, laughs and love. She always made room at her table for anyone that didn’t have a place to go. She was sassy and had a sense of humor that kept all those around her laughing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughters. Her greatest title was “Nana” to her grandsons. She lived by the motto “The more the merrier!!”  She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Juanita Schilling; and brothers, Burton and Douglas Schilling.

Kathy leaves behind her daughters, Summer Merkley and Tracee Hickman and son-in-law, Aaron Hickman; grandsons, Hunter Hickman and Nathan Hickman; sister, Lynne Crabtree; nieces, Sara MacDonald (Scott), Heather MacKender (Eric), Jennifer Anzalone (John) and Ellie Schilling; great-nephews, Kincade MacDonald and Henry MacKender; and great-niece, Emma MacKender.

Memorial services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Kathy’s family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
