Joseph (Joe) H. Patti

December 2, 1942 — April 27, 2022

Joseph H. Patti, 79, of Hinesville died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Joe was born in Jesup on December 2, 1942 to the late Frances M. Patti and the late Joseph J. Patti. He was a lifelong resident of Hinesville and a 1960 honor graduate of Bradwell Institute lettering in both football and baseball.

Joe graduated with a B.S. from Georgia Southern College in 1970. He then attended Clemson University where he received an M.S. degree in 1973 and a Ph.D. in Entomology in 1978. He worked for the Corps of Engineers as an Entomologist and a Biologist. Most of his career was dedicated to education. He was a well-known teacher at Bradwell Institute where he taught science also serving as Science Department Chairman and Science Club Sponsor. He was very supportive of his students and attended most sporting events and school activities. During the years, Joe also served as Adjunct Professor at St. Leo College, Brewton-Parker College and Armstrong State University where he taught science, particularly investing in the education of future healthcare professionals.

Joe was active in the Boy Scouts of America from a young age. He earned his Eagle Scout with Gold Palm and a Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the District Award of Merit. He also served as Assistant Scout Master as well as Wood Badge Coordinator for the Coastal Empire Counsel. He was always willing to help and volunteered in numerous areas.

In his spare time, Joe enjoying pursing his interest in art often gifting friends and families with his works.

Joe rarely missed an opportunity to be with his girls. While they were growing up, he was very involved in coaching their ball teams throughout the years dedicating many hours of his time. The family cherishes many memories of times spent together at the Liberty County Recreation Department. He was there for all the new experiences, dance recitals, gymnastic and baton events, parades, and anything they were interested in pursuing.

Joe was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Patti; daughters, Jami Patti of Dublin and Teri Evans and her husband Keith of St. Augustine, FL; son, Keith Rott (Kimberly) of Atlanta; grandson, Matthew Rott of Atlanta; brother, Anthony L. Patti (Rose) of Forsyth, GA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, John M. Patti and James R. Patti.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Westside Baptist Church with Jack Yarbrough officiating. Joe’s family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow in Hinesville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mitch Riner, James Rogers, George B. Eunice, and Karl Braley.
