Joan Y. Fredrickson

August 4, 1948 — May 14, 2022

Joan Y. Fredrickson, 73, died May 14, 2022 peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. She was born August 4, 1948 in Kennett, MO to the late Cecil and Eura Rebstock. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Randy Rebstock, Jerry Rebstock, and William “Nub” Rebstock.

Joan was a graduate of Kennett High School in 1966. She was a well-loved student involved in the Beta Club, cheer team, and was named Athletic Queen in 1965. Joan had a meritorious and noteworthy civilian career with the United States Army with well over 35 years of dedicated service with the Civilian Personnel Office as well as the Directorate of Personnel and Community Activities. She received multiple awards throughout her career and was well respected among her peers. Joan was instrumental in bringing the Relay for Life movement to Liberty County and spent countless years supporting the cause. Her ongoing fight with breast cancer during her life made her a tremendous advocate for breast cancer support and education. She became a mentor and support system for countless women with breast cancer. She was a loving and supportive grandparent to Tyler, Kaleigh and Addy. Her love for her family knew no bounds. Joan was very active with her extensive group of loyal friends, and enjoyed RV camping and cruising with her husband Don and her friends known as the “Wild Bunch”.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Don Fredrickson; one son, Kenneth (Kami) Fisher; one grandson, Tyler (Brianna) Fisher; one granddaughter, Kaleigh Fisher; one great-granddaughter, Addyson Fisher; three brothers, Troy Rebstock (Kennett, MO), Terry Rebstock (Poplar Bluff, MO), and Don Rebstock (Park Hills, MO); two sisters, Betty McLarty (Oxford, MS) and Sue Crum (Long View, TX). Additionally, Joan is survived by countless nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service.
