Jerry Randall Wheeler

June 26, 1949 — April 6, 2020

Jerry Randall Wheeler passed away peacefully Monday, April 6, 2020, surrounded by his children, grandson, and beloved family dog, Wilson, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his three children, Randy Wheeler, Leslie Wheeler Mallon (Mark) and Kacey Wheeler Howard (Robbie); two beautiful grandchildren, Jordan Robert Howard and Hailey Leslie Howard; twin brother, Terry Wheeler (Barbara), sisters, Suzette Wheeler Simpson (Jim) and Tricia Wheeler; the mother of his children, Martha Wheeler, with whom he remained close friends throughout his life; and nieces and nephews, Amy Simpson, Jay Simpson, Steven Simpson, Kim Hill, Josh Wheeler, Mandy Barnhart, Jimbo McCullough, Kristin Villareal, Robert Villareal, Andrea Villareal Hunter and Megan Gettings. Jerry was a life-long resident of Hinesville, Georgia, and graduate of Bradwell Institute in 1967. For many years, he was a big contributor to Liberty County’s residential and commercial property real estate and development. Always selfless and there to provide support, Jerry helped many people navigate their personal struggles in their times of need. Nothing made Jerry happier than living in coastal Georgia. He was happiest when spending time in Pine Harbor with his family. He loved boating and fishing, and passed on this love to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jerry also loved to gather the family in Pine Harbor for fun family gatherings and wild boating excursions. Always the prankster, he was double trouble with his twin brother, Terry, and loved nothing more than coming up with ways to cut up and tease his family and friends. He was a fun-loving and extremely generous uncle and would travel far and wide to see his nieces and nephews and their children play in games and extracurricular activities. During the last years of life, Jerry’s greatest joy was being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, especially family trips to New York City to visit Randy and Leslie or spending quality time with Kacey hanging out or flipping houses. He always loved taking his grandkids Jordan and Hailey out to breakfast, lunch or dinner and never missed one of their sporting events or activities. A lifetime hard worker, Jerry recently re-entered the world of construction, managing renovations for homes in coastal Georgia - something that gave him a deep sense of pride. There will be a private graveside service on Friday, April 10. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences are highly encouraged during this time and may be made at www.CarterOglethorpe.com.
