Jerry Wayne Goode

Jerry Wayne Goode, 76, passed away early Sunday morning at Candler Hospital following a prolonged illness. Born in Spartanburg, SC he was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Sybil Ann Goode; and his daughter, Robin Michelle Goode.

Surviving family members include his son, Michael Ray Goode and his wife, Crystal and their daughter, Brandi Michelle; granddaughter, Jennifer Conner, and her sons, Dylan (daughter Lillie Mae), David, Dustin, and Marcus; grandson, Cody Adams and his wife, Jordan and their children, Raylen and Jacob. Known as “Papa Jerry” to all who knew him he will also be missed by extended family, friends, and neighbors.

In addition to being a devoted husband, dad, and grandpa he was always willing to help others and spent over 20 years in service to his country. Through the course of his military career, he served in both the US Marines and US Army retiring as a veteran serving in Okinawa followed by three tours in Vietnam. His recognitions include, among others, the Navy Achievement Medal, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Park.
