Jack E. Waters

Jack Waters of Colonels Island, Midway, GA passed away at age 75 on December 7, 2022.

Jack was born on March 3, 1947. He graduated from Reidsville High School in 1965 where he then went on to graduate from the University of Georgia in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry. He met his wife Linda on St. Catherine’s Island in the summer of his junior year in college. Jack and Linda married on February 4, 1967. Upon graduating from the University of Georgia, Jack enjoyed a long working relationship on St. Catherine’s Island. An opportunity in banking arose and he was soon a long-time banker which led to his retirement as Senior Vice President of the Heritage Bank in Hinesville.

Jack was the President of the Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors as well as the President of the Board of Coastal Fiber. He was also a board member of the Georgia Transmission Cooperation. Jack was an avid fisherman, he also enjoyed history, and was a Georgia Bulldogs fan. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be deeply missed.  

Together, Jack and Linda raised four wonderful children, Betina Waters, Tammi Waters Harden, Alec Waters, and Noah Waters. In addition, are two beautiful granddaughters, Caila Harden and Lori Harden, and a grandson Hunter Waters. 

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marcus Duvon Waters and Edith Marie Durrence Waters; brother, Horace Waters; two sisters, Joann Waters Bowser and Cynthia Waters; grandson, Casey Daniel Nowakowski; and great- niece and nephew.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Waters; four children, Betina Waters, Tammi Waters Harden, Alec Waters, and Noah Waters; three grandchildren, Caila Harden, Lori Harden, and Hunter Waters; siblings, Terry Waters, Lisa Waters Oliver and Theresa Waters Perkins; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Hinesville, 220 Memorial Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313 with Reverend J.C. Wright officiating. Jack's family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow in Glennville City Cemetery.
