Helen Hall Howard

May 28, 1933 — March 2, 2023

Helen Hall Howard, 89, of Allenhurst, GA passed away at home on Thursday, March 2, 2023 after an extended illness under the care of GHC Hospice.

Helen was born on May 28, 1933 in Abbeville, SC to Raymond and Dolly Hall. She moved to Allenhurst, GA in 1955 after marrying Wilton “Teddy Bear” Howard. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her husband, and her son, Glenn Howard. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Hanson (Jim) of Webb City, MO; three sons, Ray Allen Hall (Frankie) of Iva, SC, Charles Howard (Jean) of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, and Mike Howard of Allenhurst, GA; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Keever of Forest Park, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was a member of Allenhurst Presbyterian Church and attended faithfully until her health prevented it. She was one of the oldest members of the church. She dedicated her life to helping raise children both in her home and in a local daycare. The impact Helen had on future generations was felt by hundreds. Until the day she died she still heard from the parents and children she helped over the years thanking her for the values she instilled in them to help them grow into productive and successful adults.

She loved the outdoors and enjoyed the birds on her many feeders and watching the squirrels playing in her yard, which was full of beautiful flowers she had planted and nourished year after year. Helen shared her flowers with anyone who came by and wanted to cuttings to plant for themselves. She not only gave them cuttings but instructed them on how to successfully nurture the plants for the best possible outcome.

Helen was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and you would incur her wrath if you dared interfere in her time watching them, as well as The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful. She was also an avid bowler until her age caught up with her and she was a member of numerous bowling leagues on Ft. Stewart. After she was no longer able to bowl, she enjoyed watching bowling on TV (as long as it didn’t interfere with the Braves).

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Helen’s nephew and his wife, George and Annette Howard for their undying love and dedication to her in her final years. They were always there to help out the family, without whose help would have made a trying time almost impossible. George and Annette were there any day, any time, and without having to be asked. God smiles on people like them who are true servants and the salt of the Earth. Also, a sincere thanks to the staff of GHC Hospice for their constant care and attention to our mom in a very professional way. They helped make the last months of her life a true blessing, not only to her but to us as her caregivers.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Oglethorpe Memorial Park with Pastor Ben Beasley, Minister of Allenhurst Presbyterian Church officiating.

Helen’s pallbearers will be Ray Allen Hall, Charles Howard, Shawn Howard, George Howard, Greg Horne, and Kevin Horne.
