Gerald Robert Blackman, a devoted family man and respected veteran, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on April 13, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, he was a proud retired Sergeant from the U.S. Army who dedicated 25 years of service in the National Guard, exemplifying a commitment to his country that resonated throughout his life.
Gerald was best known not only for his military service but also for the love and care he showed to his family and his beloved dog, Precious. His passion for music, particularly playing the guitar, provided him with an outlet for creativity and connection to others. He cherished quiet moments spent reading the Bible, which grounded him in his faith and values.
He leaves behind six children: Kim Fitzpatrick, Sherry Thyben, Lisa Jones, Peter Dorros, David Blackman, and Dianne Blackman and 9 Grandchildren. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love and integrity, shaped by the values he instilled in them throughout their lives.
Gerald was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years, Charlene Adele Blackman, whose memory he held dear in his heart. Their bond was a testament to the enduring nature of love, which continues to inspire all who knew them.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday May 15, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Glenville Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors.
