Edna Estelle Griffin

July 18, 1925 — April 29, 2019

Edna Estelle Griffin, 93, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 after an extended illness. Edna was born in Jamestown, SC on July 18, 1925 to Charles and Minerva Sandiford. Her father was a shipbuilder, so it was no coincidence that she and her siblings grew up on a houseboat. This explains why Edna’s love for the water and fishing were such an important part of her life. The love she held for those pleasures in her life did not compare to the love she had for her husband, sons and entire family, whom she without fail toiled, sacrificed and passionately cared for her entire life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sarah McCartney, Kevin Griffin, Nicholas Griffin, and Lonnie Griffin, III, were fortunate enough to live close by to share in their Granny’s life daily and will always remember and cherish the special memories. Only God in Heaven knows how much she will be missed. We love you Mom! She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Gerome Griffin, Jr.; and son, Danny Eugene Griffin. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Gerome Griffin (Debra) and Terry Lee Griffin (Veronica); sister, Sara Burnsed; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Graveside services will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA with Reverend Alfred Banks officiating. Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Edna Estelle Griffin, please visit our flower store.
