Edna Green Williams

September 15, 1915 — January 7, 2019

Edna Williams was presented to parents Cora and Baylus Green on September 15, 1915 in a small town outside of Mobile, Alabama. She is the ninth child in a line of twelve siblings. Edna grew up in Mobile and was a very helpful young girl assisting her mother with her younger sisters and brothers. As a teen she worked as a domestic and nurse for families in the area. At the age of nineteen, Edna’s mother, Cora Green, moved the family to Chicago, Illinois where Edna’s first child was born in December 1940. The Green family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1940, at that time Edna decided to go back to Mobile where she and her husband, Gilbert Williams, Sr., were blessed with three sons, after which the move to Milwaukee was made. Edna was then hired as an on-line assembler at General Foundries for a few years. Edna’s family continued to increase to a total of twelve, five daughters and seven sons. She was a mission worker at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church of Milwaukee for numerous years until her health failed and she moved to Richmond Hill, Georgia with her daughter, Jackie and son-in-law, Larry Gilliam. She was a devout Christian up until Jesus called her home on the morning of January 7, 2019. She was 103 years of age. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren whom were all able to celebrate her and her brother, Walter Green’s 100th birthday along with many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. We thank you Lord for giving her to all of us for 103 years. To God be the glory! She has gone into eternal rest with the Lord. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at New Life Church, 16252 GA Highway 144, Richmond Hill, Georgia 31324 and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Ryan Ogden officiating. Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.carterbryanchapel.com.
