Donnis Ray Salter, 71 of Liberty and Long County, died peacefully at his home in the Rye Patch Community on Friday, October 14, 2022.
Ray was born on January 23, 1951 to the late Thelmer and Myrtle Salter. Ray was a graduate of Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, GA. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on Fort Stewart for over twenty years. He retired from the Federal Civil Service in 2001. Ray got his love of farming by following in his father’s footsteps.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, son, Donnis Ray Salter, Jr; three brothers, Robert, Roland, and Franklin (Gramps); and sister, Jeanie Frost.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Penny Salter; son, Danny Salter (Dana); granddaughter, Dilyn the apple of his eye; sisters, Sue Nell Neal (Bob) and Beverly Hill; brother, Ken Salter (Dene); along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of GHC Hospice for their loving care.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel with Chaplain Steven Lee officiating. Ray’s family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery.
