Constance Smart

October 22, 1932 — January 7, 2023

Constance (Connie) Larrimore Smart, born October 22, 1932 in Clyde (now inside Fort Stewart) in Bryan County and lived in Savannah and Richmond Hill. Predeceased by her parents, Jesse Larrimore and Annie Rushing Larrimore; husband, Vernon Smart Sr; brother, Williard Larrimore; and son, Vernon Smart Jr. (Vernie). She is survived by daughter, Tammy Smart Simmons (Frank); four grandchildren, Tanner Simmons (Tofe), Matthew Kirk (Julie), Dee Dean (Mark), Tori Simmons, and Cody Simmons; seven great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irma Larrimore; niece, Paije Welch and nephew, Kevin Larrimore. It is interesting to note, Connie died on the same date that her husband of 64 years, Vernon, January 7.

Connie retired from St. Joseph Hospital’s Physical Medicine Department. She and Vernon were active members of the American Legion Post 135, Alee Temple, and her extended family of the Order of the Elks.  As the Elks Ladies Auxiliary chaplain, she could tell a risqué joke than deliver a very moving prayer.

Connie and Vernon loved to dance and she never ever left her house without looking her very best. They took every opportunity to get out on the dance floor. They really loved dancing when her son and brother’s band (The Band of Gold) provided the music.

Countless people have enjoyed her desserts through the years. Every event she attended received one of her famous cakes or pecan pies. She can best be remembered by; “Here, you are having another slice.”

We would like to thank Compassus Hospice, Tanya, Catherine, Katrina and Erica for the love they gave to her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel, 10512 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, GA 31324. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
