Lynn Sikes

August 9, 1928 — July 21, 2018

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, Carol Lynn Sikes passed into her eternal reward surrounded by her family.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, former Liberty County Sheriff Robert Vernon “Bobby” Sikes, she is survived by three sons, Robert Clayton Sikes (Tracy), Stephen Craig Sikes (Dean), Edward Gill Sikes; grandchildren Stephen Scot Sikes (Jenny), Demere’ Sikes Bowen (Patrick), Stephen Slade Sikes (Amanda), Robert Trevor Sikes (Miranda), William Brett Sikes (Brandi), Samantha Sikes Lee (Eric), Ali Anna Sikes, and Edward Garrett Sikes; one nephew, Paul Sikes Zechman (Marlene), two nieces, and ten great-grandchildren.

Only a few days shy of her 90th birthday, she maintained her humor, spunk, and tenaciousness to the very end.  She was multitalented, expressive, and filled with the dignity of a true southern belle.  A true literary giant with a vocabulary of which most of us can only dream, she read thousands of books (many of which she kept in her extensive library).  She was a licensed interior decorator, licensed physician’s assistant, published author, ballet teacher, painter, poet, and story teller.  She was a member of the Liberty County Garden Club where she proudly served a two-year term as president.  She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ollie Darsey Sunday School Class of Hinesville.

She abhorred the slaughter of the English language, and didn’t mind correcting us at any time, but, truly, her greatest gift was teaching us to use our creative imagination, never giving up on our dreams.  She believed that life on earth had divine purpose and always encouraged her family and friends to find it.

To our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend, we are so glad you and Daddy are together again!

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Hinesville with funeral services at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow in Dorchester Cemetery.

Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.CarterOglethorpe.com.
