Former Allenhurst City Councilman Carl “Sonny” Easton, who loved God and his family, died on March 7, 2024, in Allenhurst, Georgia, at the age of 90.
Carl Eugene Easton was born in Staunton, Virginia, on April 27, 1933. His family moved to Flemington, Georgia, when he was a boy, and from there to Allenhurst, where he lived most of his life.
Mr. Easton wanted to earn his own money from a young age. He mowed lawns, had a paper route, and worked with his Daddy in an auto-repair shop. He loved taking something old and making it new. At age 12 he built a car from parts he collected.
He joined the U.S. Army National Guard at age 17 and spent more than a decade in service to his country, qualifying as a sharpshooter in the 406th Ordnance Company and receiving an honorable discharge as a staff sergeant in 1963.
He worked as a civilian in the forestry department at Fort Stewart for 16 years and then moved to roads and grounds, finally retiring in 1988.
Mr. Easton was a founding member of Allenhurst Presbyterian Church, later becoming an Elder Emeritus, and served for decades on the Allenhurst City Council. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, dancing, and attending the events of his many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gracie Easton; two sisters, Shirley Cox and Dolly Kicklighter; son-in-law, Robin Franks; two nephews, Kenny Moody and Jeff McIntosh; and his lovable dog named Moe.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Eleanor (Nell) Easton; two daughters, Tammy Beasley (Ben) and Dora Gracey (Tom); four granddaughters, Sheena Fosselius (Rob), Samantha Lake (David), Brittany Myers (Matt), and Ryan Elizabeth Lewis (David); nine great-grandchildren, Erik Fosselius, Connor Fosselius, Christian Fosselius, Ryder Lake, Starr Lake, Birdie Lake, Eleanor Lewis, Lana Lewis and Ella Myers; three sisters, Helen Stanford, Georgia Ann Moody, and Gloria Jean Moody (Earl); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Allenhurst Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.
