Stephen Darieng

June 26, 1949 — December 29, 2016

Stephen G. Darieng, 67, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Candler Hospital. He was born in Liverpool, England, but was a lifelong resident of Richmond Hill. He graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1967.  Stephen continued his education at Savannah Vocational Tech where he earned a degree in architecture and went on to work in the building industry for several years as a Construction Project Manager/Draftsman for Jack Stafford Construction Company. Later, Stephen became an agent for Georgia Farm Bureau. He retired as an Agency Manager in spring of 2014 after 37 years.

Stephen was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all. In his free time, Stephen enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and other sports, along with cooking. Also, he loved entertaining his family and friends. Stephen’s passion was coaching kids in football. However, he was always on the sidelines of life offering encouragement and advice. Stephen played inspirational roles and made differences in the lives of everyone who knew him and will truly be missed.

Stephen was a member of the Richmond Hill United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. and Irene Darieng. He is survived by his wife, Susan Darieng of 24 years; two children, Michael Darieng of Statesboro and Stephanie Darieng of Richmond Hill; his grandson, Jacob Darieng of Statesboro; his sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Louis Arnsdroff of Richmond Hill; his brother Chris Darieng of Richmond Hill; and other family members.

A visitation will be held at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel on Monday, January 2, 2017, from 5p.m.- 8p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Richmond Hill United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Bryan Neck Cemetery.

Memorial Donations may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
