Robert E. Salter, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at his home where he was surrounded by his family.

He spent most of his life in Hinesville.  After service in the United States Army, he worked for the Georgia Department of Revenue until his retirement after 22 years of service.  He was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer, and the Senior Adult Sunday School class.  He was an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, T.L. and Myrtle Salter, and brothers, Roland and Franklin (Gramps) Salter.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey; daughter, Audrey Yee (Michael); son, William Ardle (Diane); grandchildren, Amanda Applequist and Aimee Perez; great-grandchild, Faelynn Grace Perez; Brothers, Ken Salter (Haroldene) and Ray Salter (Penny) of Ludowici; sisters, Sue Nell Neal (Bob) of Bartlett, TN, Beverly Salter Hill and Jeanie Frost (Chuck), both of Hinesville; sister-in-law, Lucille Salter of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  The funeral will begin at 11 am, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Gum Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Gill officiating.  He will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be deacons of Gum Branch Baptist Church.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
