Hazel Marie Sasser

January 15, 1937 — May 7, 2017

Hazel Marie Sasser completed her journey to our Father Sunday evening May 7, 2017 having
spent her weekend surrounded by loving members of her family. Hazel was best known for her fiery red
hair and personality to match. She loved to laugh and she loved to love children which is how she spent
most of her life. She is survived by her five children and left a piece of her own personality with each:
her oldest daughter Dorothy Hall (Dody) and her husband Michael, Lawrence Thackston (Larry), Jennifer
Blackston (Jenny), Christopher Thackston (Chris), and Marie Elder and her husband Corey. Her love
extended without boundaries to step children she inherited along life’s journey as well as nieces and
nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Leonard Bell and leaves behind her siblings Lewis Bell and
his wife Wanda, Louise Sheaffer and her husband Jimmy, Lynette Brady, Carolyn Kessner, C.L.Neville and
his wife Lynn. However, the greatest loves of her life came later when she had the exceptional pleasure
of loving her grandchildren Adam Hall, Danielle Hall Lane and her husband Josh, Trey Burke and Sienna
Elder who she loved without measure and was adored by in return.
Hazel had an unusual upbringing but always chose to love and forgive teaching all of those who
were fortunate enough to be a part of her life the values of hard work and simplicity. In order to give her
family the necessities of life, she babysat children and also became a bar tender. Although these two
careers seem completely incompatible, they allowed her to share her greatest gifts with all whose lives
she touched.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Savannah Hospice. Special thank you to the
staff of Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation and her wonderful Hospice Nurse Diane Reid for
assisting in her care during her battle with Alzheimer’s in her final days. Her memorial service will be
held Wednesday May 10th at Carter Funeral Home, Bryan Chapel, 10512 Ford Ave. Richmond Hill, GA
31324. Her Service will be under the direction of Carter Funeral Home and preached by her son in law
Michael Hall. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Hazel Marie Sasser, please visit our flower store.
