James R. "Jimmy" Darsey

Jimmy Darsey, otherwise known as “JimmyMacklll”, died Saturday, August 19, 2017. He was preceded

in death by his mother and father Davis and Ralph Darsey and his loving mother in law Latrelle Bennett . During his life on Earth, Jimmy was a High School Teacher at Liberty County High, a Child Protective Services worker with the Department of Family and Children Services, a Rehabilitation Services Counselor for the State of Georgia, a Program Director for Child Development Services, and a Program Manager for Educational Development and Intervention Services (EDIS} for infants and toddlers birth to age three, at Winn Army Hospital on Fort Stewart.  Jimmy was a profound advocate for children's rights and protecting them from abuse and violence. He was a graduate of Bradwell Institute, South Georgia Junior College, Georgia Southern University and attended the University of Georgia Graduate School. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. He loved his Bulldogs, his Eagles, good rock and roll, standup comedy and politics.

Jimmy's other passions were long distance running and later writing. He did both with gusto until his knees curtailed his running. He then directed his energies into writing.  One either loved him and his words or despised him for them. There was no in between.  He was a freelance writer for the Coastal Courier being featured on a bi-monthly basis on the Courier's OpEd pages from 1995 to 1999. He later went on to express his opinions prolifically on the Savannah Morning News OPED pages during a 24 consecutive month run in the early 2000's.  He later discovered blogging and carried his arsenal of words to the Coastal Courier Blog site and other domains. While some of his words were kind and hilarious, some  were dipped in  poison, and for  which the  Coastal Courier  Blog Site  saw  fit  to  ban Jimmy not  once but  twice  over  an eight year period for  his over  the  top  zealous style of writing.  Jimmy  considered  the  banishments  badges  of  honor  for  his  frank  speech. He  did  not  pull  his  punches  when  writing  and  chose  not  to  suffer  fools.  His primary writing influences were Hunter S. Thompson and Rick Bragg.

Jimmy was a member of the Epilepsy Foundation, an avid contributor to the Christian Children's Fund, a friend to the homeless and a member of The Hinesville First Methodist Church. He was baptized by full immersion in January 1995 and accepted Christ as his savior.

He leaves behind his loving wife and soul mate of 24 years, Carolyn Bennett Darsey; two sons, James Cody Darsey (Danielle) of Rochester, Kentucky, and Barrett Seth Darsey (Amy) of Smyrna, Georgia; three wonderful grand-boys, Luke, Evan and Sam; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will begin at 11 am, Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Hinesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it was Jimmy’s wish that remembrances be made to Hinesville First United Methodist Church, 203 North Main Street, Hinesville, GA  31313.
