James Gregory Yawn

A Celebration of Life Memorial service for James Gregory Yawn, 61, of Midway, Georgia will be held Saturday September 16, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Dolphin Island Oyster House, 155 Preservation Crossing Avenue, Midway, Georgia. Family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.

Mr. Yawn died peacefully at home on Thursday September 7, 2017 under Georgia Hospice Care.  He was born September 28, 1955, in Jesup, Georgia to the late Caswell S. Yawn and Dorothy Little Yawn. He graduated from Reidsville High School in 1973 and joined the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps and was stationed in Parris Island, SC, and Camp Pendleton, CA.  Mr. Yawn earned a B.S. degree in Psychology and a M.Ed. degree in School Psychology from Georgia Southern College. He also earned a Specialist in Education degree from Georgia State University. As a School Psychologist, he worked for Richmond County, Gwinnett County and Liberty County Schools.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He also enjoyed attending Georgia Southern football games and driving his ’65 Corvette.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Patricia Yawn; brother Clayton Yawn (Ellie), stepmother Grace Yawn Scott (Earl), father in law Bruce Smith (Marion), brother in law Joe Schmauss, stepbrothers Michael and Wayne Canady and stepsister, Teresa Canady Stanfield, several cousins and his beloved dog, Ranger.
