MSG Dennis Eugene Grice (US Army, ret.)

January 21, 1944 — March 27, 2018

MSG Dennis Eugene Grice (US Army, retired), 74, passed away at home Tuesday, March 27, 2018, surrounded by his family. 

Born in Panama City, Florida, he was a resident of Hinesville for 40 years.  He was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Hinesville where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Wisdom Seekers Sunday School Class.  MSG Grice retired from the US Army after 22 years of service, including tours in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany.  He was also retired from the State of Georgia Department of Corrections after 17 years of service.  He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 168 and VVA Chapter 789.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking and cooking.   He loved his church and helping others.      

He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Grice; mother, Inez Hines; and sister, Louise Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha E. Grice; children, Darlene Stokes (Tony) of Summerville, SC, Charlene Lovelace (Dave) of Graham, WA, Trish Thornton (Ed) of Summerville, SC, Denny Grice of Hinesville, Julie Savoie (Mike) of Valdosta, GA, and David Shifflett (JoAnn) of Sykesville, MD; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Grice of Hinesville, Marty Dagenhart (Wendy) of Arbutus, MD, and Danny Hines (Amy) of  Linthicum, MD; two sisters, Ellen Darland of Orlando and Carol Acree (Alan) of Beaufort, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.   

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Monday, April 2, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  Funeral Services will begin at 1 pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Hinesville with Reverend Roy Broughman and Reverend Doug Force officiating.  Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at 3 pm in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to First Baptist Church of  Hinesville Building Fund, 220 Memorial Drive, Hinesville, GA  31313.
