James Milton Crowley

April 12, 1932 — September 13, 2018

James Milton “Jim” Crowley (SFC, US ARMY, ret.), 86, of Isle of Wight passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah after a long illness. 

Born in Washington, DC, on April 12, 1932, he was the son of Malcom and Doris Crowley.  He was a resident of Liberty County for 56 years, having been stationed at Fort Stewart in 1962.  His wife, Ruthann and their children joined him in settling in Hinesville where they lived until moving to Isle of Wight in 2013. 

Jim enlisted in the US Army at a young age and fought in two wars - one tour of duty in the Korean War and three tours in the Vietnam War.  He retired from the Army in 1972 but continued to work at Fort Stewart as a civil servant with Post Housing and the Forestry Department.

Jim was a member of St. Stephen First Martyr Catholic Church in Hinesville.  He enjoyed saltwater fishing and deer hunting with his son, Mike.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthann “Mitzie” Crowley, his parents, and his brother, Paul Crowley.

Surviving are his children, Lynn Crowley Blackmer (Rick) and Mike Crowley (Debra), sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bernie Wheeler; grandchildren, Travis Crowley (Amanda), Stephen Crowley (Lindsey), Sarah Rowland (Les), and Veronica Malo (Aaron); great-grandchildren, Catherine, Cameron, Ava, Dylan, Blake, and Olivia.

Visitation will be 10:30 am – 11:30 am, Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  The funeral service will follow at 11:30 in the chapel.  Interment with full military honors will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville at 1 pm.
