Mary Johanna Malick

August 11, 1931 — December 9, 2018

Mary Johanna Evans Malick, 87, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018.

A resident of Hinesville for the past 48 years, Mary was a member of Hinesville First United Methodist Church, the Circle of Love, and Ollie Darsey Sunday School Class.  She and her husband, Dick, owned Malick’s Restaurant and catering business for 23 years.  She was an avid canasta and pinochle player and a skilled seamstress, sewing entire wardrobes for ladies in the local community.

Mary’s love of people was often demonstrated through her many acts of kindness. Her heart for children and their well-being was no better demonstrated than by the children’s clothing she collected, made, and sent to her husband deployed in Korea to distribute to the many children orphaned by the war.   During their restaurant years, she and Dick fed many people and entire families who were down on their luck.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard Devon “Dick” Malick, and son, Michael Lee “Mick” Malick.

Surviving are children, Robert Devon Malick (Kimberly) of Nashville, TN, Mariann Worley (Robert) of Hinesville, David Wayne Malick (Rhonda) of Ludowici, Richard Keith Malick (Pam) of Hinesville, and Jolynn Petrey (David) of Antioch, TN; sister, Rita Veach of Mt. Carmel, PA; brother, Kenneth Evans of Bethpage, NY; eleven grandchildren, Kaitlin, Devon, Joshua, Michael, Terra, Melissa, Jennifer, Samantha, Ryan, Aaron and Austin; eleven great-grandchildren, Lily, Tola Rose (on the way), Kameron, Tanner, Chase, Shelby, Mason, Ryder, Starr, Birdie, and Ellie; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  Funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Hinesville First United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Hinesville Cemetery at a later date.

Pallbearers will be long time family friend, James “Jimmy” Veres; grandchildren, Joshua Fowler, Michael Fowler, and Aaron Malick; and great-grandchild, Kameron DeLoach.

Remembrances may be made to Hinesville First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 203 N. Main Street, Hinesville, GA 31313.
