Michael "Mike" Allen Simerly

October 13, 1960 — January 20, 2018

Michael “Mike” Allen Simerly of Richmond Hill, Ga went to be with his Lord on January 20, 2018.  Mike was born October 13, 1960, in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Conyers.  A 1978 graduate of Rockdale County High School, Mike attended the University of Georgia where he graduated from the School of Forestry in 1983.   He worked in sales at Great Southern Wood Preserving (YellaWood) for more than ten years. He was passionate about God, family and church.  He loved nature and the outdoors, and especially God’s creation of trees.  He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and tennis, belonging to various tennis leagues for over 19 years. Mike was dedicated to sharing the joy of trusting in Jesus Christ with young people and had spent the last 28 years teaching children in various church-related programs.  He was a 5th grade Sunday School teacher at Community Bible Church where he was a faithful member.  Mike took the Great Commission seriously, seeking out ways to share his faith in his everyday living.  He was predeceased by his grandparents, Karl and Claire Negley and Mabel Brown and William E. Simerly.  He was also predeceased by a nephew, Grant Simerly. Mike is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carla Kent Simerly, daughters Amanda Simerly Eason (Will) and Lauren Simerly (fiancé Will Johnson), son Matthew Simerly and two grandchildren - Emery and Selah Eason. He is also survived by his parents William E. and Caroline Simerly, brothers William E. Simerly, Jr. (Innhee) and Keith Simerly (Penny), a sister, Amy Simerly and a niece, Taylor Simerly, along with many other relatives. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Community Bible Church, 1112 East 69th Street, Savannah, Georgia 31404 , with memorial services immediately following at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bonsai After-school Program online through http://incalink.org/ministries/bonsai.  Checks may be made out to Inca Link International, with “Bonsai After-School” in the memo line and mailed to Inca Link International, P.O.
