Joseph "Joe" R. McGrath, Jr.

Joe McGrath “Papa Joe”, 80, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. He spent most of his life in the Savannah area and was a veteran of the United States Navy and a Captain with the Savannah Fire Department.  Papa Joe was an avid fisherman and crabber, and could fix anything.  He loved John Wayne and his westerns.  He was preceded in death by his son, David McGrath; father, J. Russell McGrath; and mother, Frances W. McGrath.  He is survived by a son, Robert McGrath, Sr., of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren, Christy McGrath, Amy McGrath, and Robert McGrath, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Myranda, and Amiya; and a sister, Rochelle (Wade) Brown. The funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel.  Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
