Samuel "SJ" H. Hunt, Jr.

Hinesville 1SGT Samuel H. “SJ” Hunt (US ARMY, retired), 68, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, at Hospice House in Savannah.  The Rowland, NC, native was reared in North Carolina and Georgia.  He was a resident of Hinesville for the past 28 years. A retired First Sergeant, Mr. Hunt served 20 years and 3 months in the United States Army, was a Vietnam Veteran and recipient of a Bronze Star along with numerous other awards and commendations.  After retirement, he owned and operated S.H. Hunt Trucking Company, was a member of Hack’s Pasture Hunting Club, and loved to fish.  He was a Christian.    He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maria Hunt of Hinesville; children, Dolores Hunt of California, Katherine Hunt Millan (Jesse) of Oregon, and Dale Hunt (Jennifer) of Savannah; six grandchildren, Joe and Ashley Idica, Megan and Austin Millan, Leah Hunt and Caroline Trowell; brothers, Henry Hunt (Paula), James Hunt, and Roger Hunt (Mary-Loise) of North Carolina; sisters, Barbara Alton (Bill) and Mandy Bailey (Edward) of California and Francis Calantoc of Hawaii; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 28, 2017, at 6pm at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  The family will receive friends following the service.
