Thomas Edward Marshall

Thomas Edward (“Tom”) Marshall, 77, passed away Sunday evening at St. Joseph/Candler Hospital after a 7-year battle with cancer. Mr. Marshall was a life-long resident of the Savannah area and has made his home in the Keller Community for the past 35 years. He graduated from Commercial High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. army from 1956-1958 as a field radio repairman before beginning a career with Colonial Grocery stores, where he worked as a store manager at a number of locations over the years. Mr. Marshall was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling the local waterways in his boat. He was also known far and wide as the best fish fryer in the state of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin Marshall and Mattie Sue Jackson Marshall, a sister, Edna Marshall Edwards, a brother-in-law Novis Edwards, and by his first wife, Ina Rewis Marshall. Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Cowan Marshall, and his sister Linda (Mrs. Billy) Patton of Franklin, Tennessee. He also left several beloved nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Tom Marshall was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Richmond Hill, Georgia, where his funeral will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 11:00am following the viewing at 10:00am. He will be buried in Beaufort National Cemetery, SC at 2:00 p.m. with military honors. The family asks that contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
